CLINICAL RESEARCH TRAINING PROGRAM (K-30)

The mission of the Stony Brook University K30 program is to provide didactic training and individual mentoring in academic clinical research. The program is tailored for individuals already possessing an MD, PhD, or Doctor of Nursing degree. This 2-year program is designed to meet the criteria for consideration as defined by the National Institutes of Health in preparation for submission of a K23 Mentored Research Scholar Award or R01 NIH Research Project Grant. Coursework includes: Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Experimental Clinical Trials, Legal, Ethical and Regulatory Issues in Clinical Research, Data Management and Manuscript, Scientific Publishing and Grant Writing.

Individuals wishing to pursue academic teaching, clinical investigation and research are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants will be asked to describe their research experience, career interests and plans for publishing scientific articles.

The courses for Block I will begin on Friday, July 8 and will be held on Monday (Molecular Medicine and the Seminar Series) and Friday (Epidemiology and Biostatistics) mornings from 8:30 am- 12:30 pm in the large conference room (Room 067) in the Department of Preventive Medicine on Level 3 of the HSC. Beginning September 8, the Epidemiology and Biostatistics course will change to Thursday mornings, also beginning at 8:30am. Block I courses will extend through November 20, 2005. Course descriptions are included in this mailing. Materials for each course will be distributed at their first sessions.
