Long Island Community Alliance

This section is designed to serve you, other health providers and our communities on Long Island connect with the services available at our Stony Brook General Clinical Research Center, the Health Sciences Center and University Hospital.

We are dedicated to the development of partnerships which promote health, research, education and empowerment of all communities to better cope with their individual issues in health care.

Do you have questions on health, or your community’s wellness? Would like to find out more about research and how you can help people in your community by volunteering in studies? Would you like to hold community health educational events? The following is a description sections you can link onto to obtain information. We hope you explore our web site and take advantage of its many resources.

We are also currently working on furthering our services to include multi-lingual health literacy materials to give all our communities access to our resources. We welcome your input and advice as we move forward in 2006 and hope you will join the growing General Clinical Research Center’s family. With your involvement and our growing partnership of caring providers and researchers, we will make a difference for our communities on Long Island.

Director Community Outreach

New and on the horizon:
This section holds all the new and exciting research which is taking place at the GCRC. It is done in bullet form to give the reader a quick glance at what is available or what might be available in the near future. For involvement you are directed to link on to the Participation site.

Community Participation opportunities:
This section asks the participant questions on study interests and contact information for an assigned GCRC representative to follow-up. It offers a one on one opportunity to develop a clearer understanding of any study being done at the GCRC and whom to follow-up with.

Student and Provider Opportunities:
Like our community section this section is dedicated to students and health providers interested in participating in work to improve our Long Island communities’ health. Depending on your interest and level of training our GCRC representative will provide further information on how to develop a study and the resources available to you for the development of a clinical studies.

For students our representative will share available opportunities at the center for educational growth and volunteer positions. It also offers the student the one on one opportunity to ask questions and get involved in making a difference in community health.

Community outreach and Stony Brook events:
This section describes all available educational and outreach events open to our community members. It also promotes events being sponsored by other health providers in our partnership for healthier Long Islanders. This section is geared towards promoting all programs in health which empower community members on their options. Helping Long Islanders make better decisions for their health.

Ask Dr. Sepulveda:
Is designed for the members of our Long Island communities. In allows a one on one forum for questions on health care, requests for help in developing community educational programs, community/provider partnerships development and general advice on finding the right resources. When warranted appointments are available to meet directly with Dr. Sepulveda to discuss and develop plans for any given request.

In an intimate, professional and friendly approach, it is designed to empower, educate, promote health and develop better health prevention practices for individuals, their families, friends and community.
