Dr. McNurlan oversees the routine sample analysis of the mass spectrometry and hormone assay laboratories and ensures the maintenance of accuracy and precision of the measurements. She also directs the work to establish new techniques requested by GCRC users and the development of new methods of stable isotope analysis. The emphasis is on providing methods that are tailored to the needs of the individual study or type of patient (eg. the special constraints of experiments on the preterm infant or the patient undergoing surgery). Dr. McNurlan uses her experience of the design and analysis of tracer kinetic experiments to provide advice to users of the GCRC. She also supervises the education of the students, scientists and physicians who wish to learn to analyze their own samples and understand more of tracer methods.
